Here’s what we can offer you (our friends and trusted acquaintances) near Gilles Lake:

You bring the specialty food and/or needed hardware from the GTA. We provide the fixings and accessories for you to enjoy it here!
- It’s a 4 to 4.5 hour drive to our place, from the GTA. And that’s year-round.
- The only tricky time to reach us is during snowstorms. Lindsay Road 40 is maintained YEAR ROUND. It’s kept plowed and sanded. Our driveway is also kept clear. During the winter, we park in the upper parking lot.
- Bring your own camping gear. Treat this as a glamping experience.
- We like ATV and snowmobile owners, who adhere to municipal rules and avoid mindless habitat destruction.
- Winter activities: snowshoeing. Cross-country skiing. Winter camping. Snow shoveling (partially joking about that last one).
- Mountain Trout Camp is about 5 minutes east of us, on the shores of Gilles Lake. They’re open during the Spring and Summer tourist season. They offer camping, cabins, and/or RV hookups. Ask us about it.
- The subfloors are insulated and covered with painted wood. The metal roof has foam insulation under it. This space can be a 4-season venue.
- We sealed up all the cracks and crevices with silicone. This bunkie is truly bug-resistant. And weatherproof.
- All the windows have bug screens.
- Our bunkie has privacy curtains.
- This space has electricity. It can run a tea kettle, lights, your personal electronics, a floor fan, and possibly a modest space heater. Pack accordingly.
- There are hot and cold water spigots outside our home, by the bunkie.
- As long as you remember to keep our mudroom (“cat trap double doors”) doors closed, opening 1 door at a time (like an air-lock), you can use our home’s bathroom. TS is planning on installing a composting toilet outside for shared use.
- If you visit us, you gain access to 25 acres of mixed forest. You have access to the Bruce Trail network. We pay evil Tony Stark for satellite ISP so you’ll have Wi-Fi access.
- We’re a 21st century strawbale 100% off-grid home with all the creature-comforts. Multiple fuel sources are used. We have indoor cat(s) that are not used to dogs.
- If you visit us, your dog needs to remain on their leash. We do NOT want your pup to have a misadventure… off a cliff… with a danger noodle… with a crevace… with a bear… or just go missing.
- The bunkie is DOG FRIENDLY. PN plans on sealing the floor seams so that if your pup has an accident, it’ll be an easy cleanup for you.
- You can help out with our permaculture tasks… or not. You’re our guest and we’ll figure out a mutually beneficial arrangement.
- We have wildlife. Snakes. Bears. Turkeys. Hummingbirds. Bats. Frogs. Toads. Deer. Creepy crawlies. When you go outside here, you wear closed toe footwear. And keep a walking stick handy. Our ground’s uneven with many intriguing crevices.
- As far as the municipality is concerned, this is NOT AN ACCOMODATION. We tell everyone that this bunkie is for DAY USE ONLY. If you accidentally get really tired and fall asleep in the space, well that’s just a coincidence, yes!
- We do not collect money from any friends who visit this bunkie. Ask us about foodstuffs, staples, and things might want to bring to help us out.
