Meditation and rock farming! July 12-14/25 update.

What strategies do you use to increase comfort in your daily life?

What do I do? Meditation and rock ranching. They DO move on their own (geologically speaking). I lift and help gather boulders in herds, where they can mingle, pair off, and make pebbles, and thus, they can thunder across the Bruce Peninsula. Oh, and telling tall tales!

Replace rock farming with messing around on 10 hectares of mixed forest, and you know what I really do to 😌 relax.

There’s plenty of interesting chores to do around the farm. To reduce muscle strain, I use rubber bands to do physiotherapeutic preventative maintenance.

How else does PN add comfort to his life: troubleshooting technical issues on the rock-farm. TS and I manage our own electrical power generation, potable water supply, heating-cooling, and waste management. SELF RELIANCE, for the win!

Jeez Louise! I’ve been trying to figure out why our electrical system monitoring system was disconnected from the network. My electrician (Nathan V. at Design Electric [owner]) couldn’t monitor our system. If the system goes down, he has no way to remotely troubleshoot it.

Schneider Solar Electric’s silence to my requests for help let me make my own conclusions about the company. And they are NOT good. My conclusions based on SE‘s behaviour:

  • Their physical equipment is THANKFULLY well-built. As long as it’s properly installed and configured, it can be managed by the end-user.
  • Schneider Solar Electric caters to their more lucrative clients. I’m a small, 10-13kW operation. I’m less important than a multi-megawatt facility.
  • I’m a Canadian client. SE is a multinational corporation that has world-wide assembly plants and research-and-development. I’m an insignificant player on the global stage.
  • The Covid-19 pandemic must have broken ANOTHER company. Their technical support network might be understaffed and probably farmed out to the lowest bidder.

build relationships with your local tradespeople!

WHAT AM I THANKFUL FOR: I have built a respectful, often-humorous relationships with my electrician, my HVAC-heating-cooling agent, and my plumber. Design Electric (Owen Sound, ON), Cooks (Owen Sound, ON), and Mayne Piping And Plumbing (Grey County, ON)… deeds speak, as the York Regional Police like to say. Thank you for your long-term support of our rock farm. You charge a fair rate, and are willing to work with us to solve problems remotely (or hazard the >90 minute drive up the Bruce Peninsula).
