My anxiety. My temper.

Daily writing prompt
What is one thing you would change about yourself?

I understand the question asked me to muse about “one thing”, however, my teacher-brain didn’t want to hypenate anxiety-temper-WTF-is-going-on mood. It is one of the reasons I’ve taken to the meditation program offered by Headspace. Does it make me feel better? Not necessarily. It allows me to note my racing thoughts. Then, (and this is the trick), let them go. I’m used to having extreme emotions — very high and very low… almost always intense. It’s easier done than said (as extolled by Dr. Teeth in the Muppet Movie). What it offers me is a chance to gain perspective on surrounding events and me. Here are some cliches that are floating around in my head while I think about WordPress’ question: (i) pain is inevitable… suffering is not. (ii) good thoughts and evil thoughts are only that… they only affect my surroundings when I act upon them. (iii) I spend a fcuk of a lot of time in my head… internal storylines that may or may not be based on reality. (iv) blue sky analogy — even when I’m trying to navigate my own personal shitstorm, calm and fair experiences are still in the background. (v) I might occassionally be an a**hole, yet still strive to follow The No A**hole Rule, in the workplace (thank you for writing that 2007 book, Mr. Sutton [ISBN 978-0-446-52656-2]).
