I also suspect there are no atheists in hospitals when one is stricken with severe health issues!
I am relieved that I stepped away from being a full-time employee of any school board. I could never answer a writing prompt like this… and not be fearful that it would come back to haunt me later. I was never entirely successful at hiding my core beliefs from my students.
Am I religious? Yes. However, it might not be in the ways that most would expect. Nature is my church. I worship the Sun. I look up into the night sky and marvel at the cosmos. I believe there are systems and interactions at play that are beyond my comprehension. I believe in deep ecology, and know that when I die, I will go back into the Earth and get recycled. No, I do not believe there’s a big daddy in the sky that forces me to be a good person… nor a supernatural tormentor (humans are easily capable of evil acts… without Lucifer egging them on).
Oh, and cats. I worship cats. And all dogs go to heaven, no?
