If I want to (gently) alarm my spouse, I share my (Wikipedia) browsing history with her.

Daily writing prompt
What was the last thing you searched for online? Why were you looking for it?

Oh dear… today’s writing prompt looks similar to some reverse-psychology black-hat hacking strategy (i.e., “sooooo… what was your mum’s maiden name? Ah, and what was the name of yer favourite pet? [just curious, dontcha know] Serious Link to identity protection).

My favourite pastime is surfing around both Wikipedia and WikiVoyage. I end up going to some truly odd nooks and crannies of the site. I appreciate its oddly strong crowdsourced editing practices. Yes, I do visit the footnotes and navigate to primary sources (if what I am reading is particularly striking/concerning/WTF-inducing). Unfortunately, about half of the primary sources are now locked behind a paywall. There must be a compromise between the author’s/publisher’s right to be paid and citizen’s right to verified information. I wonder if I will be alive long enough to see it?

august 29, 2023 visit to our construction site.

I had an almost perfect day yesterday. Up at 5 a.m. On the road by 6:20 a.m. Road Trip up to Owen Sound. Drop off fragile keepsakes. Drive up to our future home. Get a thrill of our site’s progress. An uneventful drive back to the city. Capped off with an excellent Hamaru sushi dinner for our 29th wedding anniversary. I will save the videos for face-to-face visits (as I recorded them at 60fps HD [big files]). Here is a sampling of what we witnessed at the site:

I will be annotating these images and posting them later in September. Please understand — these are my unofficial interpretations of what is going on. Official designations and labelling is reserved to Evolve Builders Group (translation: I might not know what I am talking about [EBG is our official contractor and spokespeople]).
