We went to the farm this morning. PN pulled out the juniper ground cover, so that we could clear the rock outcrop of deadfall. TS doggedly used our underpowered chipper to process branches into bedding. The juniper will be shredded with the parquet flooring separately (and used for pathways).
We learned about hugelkultur at the permaculture course. Now, it’s time to try it. We have a lot of punky wood and root balls that need to be put to use. In the late Fall, we’ll pull out those piles of punky wood scattered along the property lines! Here’s a link to an introductory 2017 article about hugelkultur.
And here’s a clip from a dude who doubled-down on this strategy: paul wheaton
the duke of permaculture… Paul Wheaton is a powerful advocate of permaculture and its ability to solve many of the world’s problems. He was dubbed the Duke of Permaculture by both Geoff Lwaton and Sepp Holzer. And, he was given the title “The Bad Boy of Permcaulture,” by Occupy Monsanto” (downloaded September 15, 2024 19:20; link https://www.richsoil.com/paul-wheaton.jsp ).
We’ll be using Mr. Wheaton’s ideas, outlined here (link).
